Creating a Catenary Wire

To create a catenary wire, follow the steps below.

Step 1: Navigate to the 'Wires' section of the Lineardraft toolbar

Step 2: Click the 'New Catenary Wire' button

This will open the 'Configure Catenary System' window.

Step 3: Select the type of catenary system you want from the drop-down menu

The catenary systems you have available will be dependent on the design catalogues you have installed.

Step 4: Name your wire in the text box, then click 'Confirm'

This will open the 'Select Structure' window.

Step 5: Attach the wire to a structure

Select the structure from the drop-down menu and click 'Confirm'.
Alternatively, click 'Locate', then click on the required structure in either 3D or plan view. This will open the 'Configure' window.

Step 6: Configure wire point

Customise your wire point however you want.

The drop-down menus on the left-hand side are:

Track: Defines which track the catenary wire will be associated with, for multiple track structures such as TTCs or portals
Status: The current status of the wire point being placed
Support Type: Whether the wire point is supported and/or registered, an anchor, or an MPA - more on support types here.
Span: The wire span type

Choose the running of the wire point:

In-running: The wire will be in contact with the pantograph
Out-of-running: The wire will not be in contact with the pantograph

The text boxes on the right-hand side adjust the following:

Messenger Wire: Height of the messenger wire in metres, relative to HRL
System Height: Distance between the messenger and contact wires
Contact Wire: Height of the contact wire in metres, relative to HRL
Stagger: The offset of the contact wire from the centre line of the track in metres

The 'Equipment' checkbox can be ticked to add catenary equipment. Learn more here.

Step 7: Click 'Confirm'

This creates your wire, and confirms the settings for your wire point.
